I have recently created a very interesting topic on the testing for gluten. It mainly covers that gluten CAN NOT be tested for but that only the proteins in wheat and rye are able to be tested. http://hubpages.com/hub/food-testing

Oats and Malted Barley cannot be accurately tested for at this stage, and therefore any products containing these ingredients cannot be labelled as gluten free and must be avoided.

Out of curiosity, Veronica, has Amy ever reacted to Malt Vinegar? Even though it comes from barley, some studies have been showing that it may be safe for consumption on a gluten free diet someday when they can test for it. The vinegar is highly fermented (or something of that nature...).

I have created a YouTube video to get my concerns relating to Domino's Pizza out there: http://hubpages.com/hub/glutenfreepizza-not

Have a look at it and let me know what you think!

I feel we need something like this to get people aware of some of the dangers and risks associated with getting a so-called 'gluten free' pizza.

There are so many people who simply don't respect the needs of those with Coeliac Disease like they should. I have posted on a number of businesses in this category and am very very very V-E-R-Y V -----------------E-----------------R-----------------Y Sick to absolute death of it.

The reason:

The gluten free fad diet! These people are the reason why coeliacs is so underestimated today.

My rant? when people say IBS and use inverted finger commas. Like it's a made up label. *gets stabby*. Maybe they can accompany me to the toilet every 15 minutes next time I'm having a bad day.

As you know, we don't have Gluten issues, but I really, really, REALLY feel your pain. It makes me SO angry when people dismiss food issues as 'faddy diets' or say that they don't exist, it's just pushy parents inventing symptoms. O RLY? Tell that to my daughters insides, please, because they seem to believe otherwise. When people said to me during those month before the allergy came under control and she was constantly vomiting and had chronic diarhea, that I was just imagining it, I wanted to knock on their door at 3am and demand that THEY listen to her scream for 8 hours in a row while she arched her back and vomited and shat herself. Then tell me I'm imagining it.
It really irritates me how the media, instead of increasing awareness, downplays food issues. How is that helpful at all?? People say 'Oh, so you just have to avoid milk, butter, cheese?' Well, yes, ESSENTIALLY, but the problem is milk is IN everything, and whey is in everything. I can't 'just' not-eat milk-and-cheese-and-butter and that's it. I have to label-check EVERYTHING. And don't get me STARTED on my father-in-law, who STILL calls it 'lactose intolerance' despite being corrected for 10 months that it is, in fact, a MILK ALLERGY.
*and breathe*

When Sam was three months old and I couldn't get him over 11 pounds (he was 8lbs 12oz at birth) celiac was one of the things they considered. We were lucky that there was nothing wrong and he started gaining weight as soon as he started solid food, but I'll never forget his spindly limbs and hollowed cheeks, and the all consuming worry that plagued me during that time coloured my parenting of him for years after he started to thrive. I can only imagine how you must feel when someone diminishes the disease that hurts your baby so much. Amy is lucky to have such a vigilant mommy, and such a wonderful advocate. Keep ranting.
